Choose your sector

Why this matters in your ERP selection: When making your selection, it is important to take your sector into account. A system must perfectly align with your business processes. These processes differ per industry. For example, a wholesale company operates differently from a construction company and therefore requires different functionalities.

What type of manufacturing are you specialised in?

Why this matters in your ERP selection:

When selecting an ERP, it is important to take different types of manufacturing into account. Each sector has its own specific requirements for an ERP. For example, if you work with perishable goods, the ERP must be able to handle FIFO and best-before date data. Are you in fashion? Then colour/size matrices are important, etc.

How are your production orders planned?

Why this matters in your ERP selection:

In stock-driven production processes, items are manufactured based on sales forecasts. You want to keep inventory as low as possible without running into delivery problems. You then need ERP software that monitors stock levels and helps with reliable forecasting. Is your production customer-order-driven? Then orders must be taken into production quickly. The ERP must also take any customer specifications into account.

Marc
Mark Sanders
Software Expert

What does your production process look like?

Why this matters in your ERP selection:

In discrete manufacturing, you need an ERP with strong capabilities for building bills of materials. If you only do assembly, you are in luck: this typically requires less complexity from ERP systems. For (semi) process industries, these systems are not suitable. Here, the software must be able to handle formulas and recipes (ratios, mixing, etc.). Finally, project-based production is a completely different discipline and requires strong project management functionalities.

Marc
Mark Sanders
Software Expert

What production volumes do you work with?

Why this matters in your ERP selection:

In unit production, items are produced one by one (weighing, artisan products, etc.). In this case, ERP software must be able to accommodate many customer specifications. When products are made in multiple quantities at once, we refer to batch or series production. Due to the larger runs, inventory management functionalities are important. In continuous production, the production process is kept running as much as possible. As a result, ERP software must excel at calculating optimal capacity utilisation.

Provide a precise description of your business activities. The more you share, the more accurate the selection will be.

Enter the number of employees

Why this matters in your ERP selection: When making your selection, it is important to know how many employees there are and how many people will be using the software. As a general rule: the larger the organisation, the more complex the implementation. This is not only because all users need to be trained, but also because decision-making often differs compared to smaller companies. With larger businesses, the vendor must be better able to handle longer communication lines and implementation timelines.

ERP software by sector

There is a suitable ERP system for every business. Exactly which system that is depends on many factors, such as the size of your business, your processes and your budget. But one thing almost always plays a major role: the sector in which you operate. A supplier who knows your industry inside out understands the requirements, regulations and working methods that go with it.

Read more about the key benefits of ERP for your sector, which features are absolutely essential, and how to find a system that fits your needs seamlessly.

Wat is ERP?

What is ERP?

An ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system brings together an organisation’s various business processes into a single integrated whole. This includes areas such as finance, procurement, stock management, production, sales and human resources. As a result, staff always work with the same up-to-date data.

Frequently asked questions

Here you’ll find the most frequently asked questions about ERP Guide and how we work

Is ERP Guide truly independent?
Yes, we are in no way affiliated with any ERP suppliers, which means we can provide a truly independent ERP selection service.
Is ERP Guide really free and without obligation?
Yes, ERP Guide’s services are completely free and without obligation.
In which countries do you operate?
Our services are available in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, The United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy and Spain.
How does ERP Guide work?
Once you’ve completed the selection tool, one of our software experts will get to work on your answers. They’ll map out your needs and requirements and identify which ERP suppliers have experience with your sector, business activities and company size. If anything is unclear, the expert will get in touch with you to clarify everything.
Why shouldn’t I contact ERP suppliers directly myself?
A good salesperson is never (entirely) objective, but we are. We ensure you get a fair and comprehensive picture of the ERP market.
Why am I not matched with all ERP suppliers?
We only match you with ERP suppliers whom we know are capable of handling the project. This ensures you are put in touch exclusively with ERP suppliers who have experience with your sector, business activities and company size, and who can deliver within the desired timeframe.
What happens to my (company) details?
We use your contact details solely for the ERP selection process. We handle them with care and do not retain them for longer than necessary. Would you like to know more about how we handle your privacy? Please read our privacy statement.
When does a company need an ERP system?
Companies process large amounts of information every day. Customer data, orders, invoices, stock levels, schedules and financial records: as an organisation grows, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep track of all this manually. An ERP system brings all these departments and tasks together in a single centralised environment. This ensures that everyone is working with the same, up-to-date data. A change made in one department is immediately visible to the rest.
Is ERP also suitable for small businesses?
Absolutely. Whether you’re a start-up, a sole trader or a multinational: every business can benefit from an ERP system. A common misconception is that ERP is only for large organisations, or that it’s always expensive. That’s not true: these days, there are plenty of solutions specifically tailored to small businesses, both in terms of functionality and price. Some providers even focus entirely on them.
Do you also help with selecting software other than ERP?
We don’t just help with selecting an ERP system. You can also come to us if you’re looking for any of the following systems: Business Intelligence (BI), BPM, CRM, DMS, HRM, SCM, TMS or WMS.
What can AI in an ERP system do for my business?

AI within ERP is developing rapidly, and exactly what is possible varies greatly depending on the supplier and solution. There is as yet no single answer to what ‘AI in ERP’ entails; one provider uses it in a completely different way to another.

However, a number of trends are emerging. These include predicting demand or stock requirements based on historical data, flagging anomalies in figures, or providing suggestions for work scheduling. The aim is usually the same: less manual research and better-informed decisions.

As the capabilities vary significantly from one system to another, it is wise, when making a selection, to carefully assess what an AI feature actually delivers in practice and whether it is genuinely AI or simply ‘ordinary’ automation.
